"At Garage Coffee Bros., we believe that an excellent specialty coffee must be sustainable at every stage: from planting to the cup. Our commitment, started in 2018, is not just a statement but a set of concrete and measurable actions, focused on the positive impact we can generate on the Planet and People."
Our journey towards greater sustainability is a constant evolution. On this page, we put in black and white our daily commitment, for a future where our passion does not negatively impact the world.
Sustainability and ESG*: The Fundamentals
What Does Sustainability Mean to Us?
The term Sustainability refers to a development model capable of ensuring the satisfaction of the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.
For too long, this concept has been associated solely with ecology. Today, to be a truly responsible company, it is essential to embrace a broader perspective that includes the economy and society.
Our Commitment to Pilastro
Our sustainability plan is structured around these three areas, turning the sector's challenges into opportunities for innovation.
1. Environmental (E): Towards Zero Emissions and Waste
Our goal is to minimize our environmental footprint, from roasting to final delivery.
- Low Impact Roasting: We use IMF roasting machines equipped with a Catalyst, a special burner at 600°C that reduces atmospheric emissions (NOx, CO2, Formaldehyde, etc.). Our biennial analyses confirm that emissions are less than half of the maximum legally allowable threshold.
- Circular Packaging (Today): For e-commerce shipments, we use only recycled cardboard boxes and paper tape. Since August 2025, we have fully implemented 100% Compostable Packaging (NatureFlex Home Compostable) for all formats (250g and 1kg), a crucial and pioneering step in the Italian Specialty Coffee world.
- Shipping Offsetting: Through the partnership with the Shopify PLANET app and participation in the "Climat Protect" project by GLS Courier (for B2B shipments), we guarantee zero-impact shipments. Financial contributions are invested in global climate projects and the purchase of low-impact electric vehicles.
2. Social (S): Valuing People and the Territory
We are committed to ensuring fairness and support throughout the entire coffee supply chain, from producer communities to our customers.
- Farmgate Price: We are actively committed to supporting the fair price paid to the producer. We monitor and track the "Farmgate Price" (the actual price paid to the farmer/cooperative) to ensure that the quality of specialty coffee is fairly compensated and not influenced by market speculation.
- One Coffee Package = Add a Mangrove, remove a plastic bottle from the planet, that’s the math we like! With the "Buy 1. Plant 1. Harvest 1" initiative, for every package purchased, we plant a Mangrove in Kenya with Veritree (thanks to GoodAPI), a tree capable of absorbing up to 300kg of CO2.
- Plastic-Free Oceans: We collaborate with Plastic Bank: every coffee package purchased allows us to remove the equivalent of one plastic bottle from the oceans. In this way, we support local communities who collect plastic in exchange for social projects in impoverished areas.
3. Governance (G): Transparency and Accountability
Our governance is based on transparency in decision-making and accountability for our actions.
- Traceability: We are committed to making the Farmgate Price increasingly visible, ensuring our customers have the utmost clarity about the origin and fair value of the coffee.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: We acknowledge that we are not perfect, but our Governance is focused on innovation. The switch to 100% compostable packaging from August 2025 is proof of this: a definitive commitment that will forever change our sustainability approach.
- Open Communication: We provide data on our results (e.g., emission reductions, CO2 offsetting) to build a trust-based relationship grounded in transparency with our customers.
- Code of Ethics: this is the document where a company clearly states the values that guide its decisions. Our Code of Ethics can be viewed here. It is a living document: it grows with us.
what is ESG*
The Three ESG Pillars: Environmental, Social, Governance
The acronym ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) represents the lens through which we evaluate our sustainability performance, dividing our impact into three fundamental areas:
- Environmental (E): Concerns the impact of our activity on the environment (e.g. resource management, emissions, packaging).
- Social (S): Concerns relationships with employees, communities, and producers along the entire value chain (e.g. equity, safety, inclusion).
- Governance (G): Concerns corporate management, transparency, and the fight against corruption (e.g. code of ethics, price transparency).
