How to Make Coffee with a French Press: Mistakes to Avoid and the Correct Technique

The French Press is a total infusion tool that is often underestimated. It is accused of producing muddy coffee, but usually the problem is the technique. With the correct procedure, you get a soft and enveloping body without unpleasant residues.

The most common mistake is using a fine grind: the powder passes through the metal filter mesh and continues to extract bitter substances. Weigh 30 grams of coarsely ground Specialty coffee and pour 500 ml of water at 92°C. Place the lid without pressing the plunger and let it infuse for 4 minutes. Break the surface crust with a spoon, remove foam and floating residues, then lower the plunger slowly, without forcing. Key rule: do not leave the coffee inside the French Press, because it would continue to extract bitterness. Pour it immediately and completely into a carafe or mugs.
